Mad Tea Party

A couple of weeks ago, Katie and I were offered 8 mismatched placesettings for a Mad Tea Party, and we just couldn't wait to use them.  So we threw a party!
Since it is the middle of summer, we focused on iced tea instead of hot tea (although hot tea was available).  And since neither of us know when to stop and are the daughters of women with the gift of hospitality and hostessing, we went all out.  And we were very tired.  But it was very fun.  But we were very tired.  We should have taken the help that was offered (lesson learned).

THE MENU

  • Peach Tea
  • Mint Tea
  • Hot Tea
  • Lemonade
  • Ice Water
  • Scones (with clotted cream)
  • Cinnamon Tea Rolls
  • Garden Sliders (aka veggie sandwiches)
  • Creamy Chicken Sandwiches
  • Bruchetta
  • Individual Piña Colada Jello salads
  • Fresh Peach Cup-pies
  • Shortbread "Eat Me" cookies

THE PLAN

  • Have the tea party outside "in the garden."
  • Play croquet.
  • Watch Alice in Wonderland (the new version).

Generally, things went according to plan, except that there was a heat advisory that day, so we had the party inside.  Having nice tea parties seems to be all about the details so we did our best.  The girls were encouraged to wear dresses and skirts-- some even went the extra mile and wore knee socks!  I was thrilled.  I froze mint leaves into ice cubes ( "She froze mint leaves and raspberries in the ice cubes... I should have known she was trying too hard!"  What movie?)

We found these fun flowers that seemed extremely appropriate for a Mad Tea Party:

In the story Alice eats a little cake that says "Eat me" and it makes her bigger, so of course we needed that.

And croquet seemed most appropriate.

Since we didn't have flamingoes and hedgehogs, we just used our imaginations.

And the movie... you can read my thoughts on that here.

Katie, it was a good idea!  Stacey-- thanks for the dishes!  Oh, and to close things up, here is a very natural candid of us all enjoying our tea:
