Joyce's Sweet Rolls: A Tribute

A couple of weeks ago, my dad's Aunt Joyce passed away.  She is missed immensely, we we know she is in a better place now-- at home with her Savior.

To get an idea of the kind of person she was, I highly recommend reading these thoughts from her grandchildren.

At the funeral, by all of the pictures and photo albums, they had her apron which said "World's Best Cook."

I know those are strong words, but... it's true.  She was an AMAZING cook.  I remember her saying one time "Julie {her daughter-in-law} is always bugging me to give her my recipe for baked steak, but I refuse, because when she finds out how many calories are in it, she will never eat it again."

One of my life-long regrets is that I never got that recipe from her.

This & That

The measure of a good "this & that" post is the number of labels you can legitimately assign to it, right?  Let's see how good I am.

There's lots of stuff going on around here.  The most exciting is a secret project I am working on that I can't wait to finish and show you.  I'll give you a hint: it involves my sewing machine.  I'm super, super excited about it.  But don't get excited... its really not that exciting.  I get excited about little things.

Peanut Butter Week: Gluten Free Peanut Butter Cookies

I had a friend in college that would make these cookies all the time.  I would be working the front desk in the dorm, and what a blessed sight it would be to see Angela peek around the corner with a plate of cookies!

Peanut Butter Week: Peanut Butter Pie, Two Ways

Happy Pi Day, everyone!  In honor of this irrational number, we had pie today.  And in honor of peanut butter week, I made peanut butter pie.  Two kinds, actually!

Oatmeal Week: Peanut Butter Fingers

Apparently Oatmeal Week is happening nation-wide!  Rachel in Colorado beat me to the punch with her pineapple granola recipe on Tuesday, and Devan in North Carolina shared Whipped Banana Oats yesterday, which I can't wait to try!

Snowballs

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for it to snow.  I know that there will be PLENTY of snow this winter.  There always is.  But...I always get excited about the first snow.

Oreo Ice Cream Cake

You know how you have those friends that are really good friends, and they seemingly have always been you friends, but you don't know how you started being friends?  Its not like you went to school or church with them, and they aren't your neighbors... God just mysteriously plunked them into your life, and they have been there ever since?  Its like God just gave you a random kiss seemingly out of nowhere... those kinds of friends are wonderful.

Zucchini Chocolate Cake

Allow me to introduce you to one of the tastiest ways to eat a vegetable.

I will admit, I was dubious when Laura gave me this recipe and said it was a great way to use up those monster zucchinis.  But Laura is a great cook, so I took the recipe--and the hint to stop leaving giant vegetables on her desk and in her car-- and tried it.

Bbbbbbbbbbbbbrownies!

This is not the recipe of the week, but my in-laws are visiting and my sister-in-law and I decided we needed to make some nice, warm brownies since it was a rainy day.

We tried to do it P-dub style...
