Bbbbbbbbbbbbbrownies!

This is not the recipe of the week, but my in-laws are visiting and my sister-in-law and I decided we needed to make some nice, warm brownies since it was a rainy day.

We tried to do it P-dub style...

Here is the cast of characters (clockwise from left): salt, flour, unsweetened chocolate, sugar, walnuts (we didn't put them in... they were just standing nearby so we let them jump in the picture) butter, instant coffee, baking powder, chocolate chips, eggs, and vanilla (yes, its imitation... please don't judge)

We added all of the chocolate chips at this point.  We later found that we weren't supposed to.  Oh well.

Somehow, make the chocolate and butter (1 pound!) all melty.  We were going to nuke it, but then we couldn't fit it all in the dish-- all of those paper-wrapped pieces still need to go in.  So we improvised a double-boiler.

Metal bowl + big, tall pan = double boiler.  It actually fits perfectly...no one would know that it wasn't supposed to be this way.

We felt like we did when we were little kids and we were doing something naughty and didn't want our parents to find out what we were doing.  Seriously, this should be illegal.

Speaking of illegal... have you ever done anything illegal?

What movie?

Put the eggs in another bowl.  This recipe called for 6 extra-large eggs, but we only had large eggs, so we used 7.

Add the instant coffee...

Then the vanilla...

 Then comes the sugar...

NOTE: This recipe calls for 2 cups of butter, over 2 pounds of chocolate, and 2 1/4 cups sugar...and 1 1/4 cups flour.  Something seems out of proportion.
Meanwhile the chocolate is melty and beautiful.

Dry ingredients are mixed in another bowl (flour, salt, baking powder)

Add the egg mixture to the melty mixture...

Stir, stir, stir.

Then add the dry ingredients.

Stir, stir, stir.

Into the pan that you have previously greased and floured.

Look at that... re-donk-u-lous.

Into the oven...my apron helps me feel a little more Betty Crocker.

Then through the magic of the internetz...

Make sure you have a glass of milk.

PS- As these were baking, I suddenly realized a thinking error I had with the butter.  I only put in 2 sticks instead of 4.  I feel like to a certain point adding more doesn't matter... a lot of butter is just a lot of butter.  You really couldn't tell the difference.
